Saturday 16th May Club Ride

🚴 MAIN GROUP — Saturday Ride

📍 Southbroom School | ⏰ 9:00am | 📏 ~79km | ⛰️ ~650m climbing

Saturday’s route is a long and varied loop that takes us north and west before swinging back through the heart of the Vale of Pewsey — a real Wiltshire adventure. 🗺️

We head out through Chandlers Lane and climb up to the ridge before dropping down towards Calne, threading through the lovely back lanes via Quemerford, Bremhill and Turf House Lane. From there we wind through the quiet countryside around the Lacock and Chippenham fringe, before a long arc brings us back east past Beckhampton and down into the Vale for the run home.

🧤 It’s going to be a chilly one on Saturday — so dig out the base layer, pack the gloves and don’t forget a gilet. The kind of day where you’ll be glad you wore the extra kit in the first mile! Cold air, quiet lanes and good legs — what more do you need? 😄

On the way home we’ll be stopping at the legendary Honeystreet Café ☕🍰 right on the Kennet & Avon Canal — a well-earned warm drink and a slice of something good before the final push back to Southbroom.

Layer up and come join us — it’ll be worth it! 💪

Saturday 9th May Club Ride

🚴 MAIN GROUP — Saturday Ride

📍 Southbroom School | ⏰ 9:00am | 📏 ~82km | ⛰️ ~700m climbing

Saturday’s ride heads somewhere a little different — we’re venturing out onto the wide open spaces of Salisbury Plain for a route that feels like no other in our repertoire. 🪖🌄

From Devizes we roll through the Marden valley and drop into Pewsey before heading south towards the Plain, passing through Milston and out along the iconic Bulford Droveway — one of those ancient tracks where the views stretch for miles and the road seems to go on forever. We thread through the garrison towns of Bulford and Tidworth before climbing back up via Shaw Hill and swinging north through Cadley and along the Marlborough Road ridge, before dropping back down through the Pewsey Vale and home.

For coffee this week we have something a little special — we’ll be stopping at the ☕ Armed Forces Hub in Tidworth, a fantastic community space that supports our serving personnel and their families. Well worth a visit and a great cause to spend your cake money on! 🍰

It’s a big day out — lumpy in all the right places, with the Plain delivering that big-sky, wide-open feeling that makes Wiltshire riding so special. Don’t miss this one. 💪

Saturday 11th April Club Ride

🚴 Saturday Club Ride — This Weekend!

A big one this Saturday, and we’re very much here for it! 💪 And don’t forget — summer hours are here, which means we’re rolling at 9:00am sharp! 🌅 Set those alarms accordingly!

We head out from Southbroom School at 9am for an 85km ride with around 600m of climbing — overcast skies and 11°C means prime cycling weather. Not too hot, not too cold. Just right. 🌥️

We head north out of Devizes and immediately get into the action with a solid climb up past Bishops Cannings toward the ridge — one of those efforts that wakes the legs up nicely and earns you the views. From there we drop down toward Calne and Quemerford before sweeping out through the quiet lanes of Bremhill and the pretty village of Tytherton Lucas. The route then pushes north toward the Somerford area before one of the highlights of the whole ride — the famous Maud Heath’s Causeway, a 16-mile ancient pathway that makes for genuinely beautiful cycling. 🏛️ We loop back south through Studley and the lanes above Melksham before the familiar finale through Semington and home.

☕ Coffee stop this week is at Mind Tree Café in Rowde — perfectly placed to refuel before the final push back. Well earned after those northern lanes!

🧥 Kit tip: 11 degrees and overcast — base layer, gilet, and a decent pair of gloves. You might not need the winter jacket but you’ll be grateful for the extra layer on that early climb. Check your mudguard bolts too — just in case! 🔧

As always the ride is weather dependent — but honestly, 11 and cloudy is a perfectly good excuse to get out there. Crisp air, quiet lanes, great company. That’s what Saturday mornings are for. 🙌

9am start — don’t be late! 🚴‍♂️

Saturday 28th March Club Ride

🚴 Saturday Club Ride — This Weekend!

We’re heading out into some of the best riding Wiltshire has to offer this Saturday! 🌾 Rolling out from Southbroom School at 9:30am, the main group takes on a superb 77km route with around 550m of climbing — partly cloudy skies, 9°C, and that fresh, crisp air that reminds you why you got into cycling in the first place. ❄️☁️

From Devizes we thread through the Pewsey Vale via Etchilhampton and Patney, dropping into Pewsey before climbing out through Milton Hill and pushing east toward the beautiful lanes around Great Bedwyn and Wolfhall. History fans take note — we pass near the legendary Crofton Beam Engine, the oldest working steam engine in the world. 🏭 Then it’s on through the quiet back lanes to Ramsbury, before swinging through the wide streets of Marlborough and winding home through the gorgeous wooded valley at Lockeridge and back across the Vale to Devizes.

☕ Coffee stop is somewhere on route — details TBD, but rest assured, no one is going home without cake. That’s basically club rules.

🧥 Kit tip: 9 degrees and overcast — yes to a base layer, yes to a gilet, and maybe those knee warmers you keep meaning to leave at home but never quite do. Gloves. Definitely gloves.

As always the ride is weather dependent — but 9 and cloudy? That’s practically a Wiltshire summer. No excuses. 😄

See you Saturday! 🙌

Saturday 21st March Club Ride

☀️ and the sun is actually showing up! ☀️

We’re rolling out from Southbroom School at 9:30am this Saturday for a cracking 75km route with around 500m of climbing — and with a high of 12°C and sunshine on the way, it honestly feels like someone hit fast-forward to summer. Enjoy it while it lasts! 😎

From Devizes we drop down through the Caen Hill corridor and swing south through Poulshot before tracking west through West Ashton and into the beautiful lanes around Bradford-on-Avon — Wadswick, Corsham, and some proper Wiltshire back-road goodness. We’ll wind through Lacock and follow the canal-side through Melksham, picking up the lanes back through Seend and Semington before the final push home via the familiar Folly Road drag back into Devizes.

☕ Coffee stop this week is at Spindles — always a solid reward after those western lanes!

🌤️ Kit notes: 12 degrees and sunny means it’s almost a shorts-and-jersey day… but almost. A light gilet or arm warmers for the first hour won’t go amiss. No mudguard required this week — hallelujah! 🙌

As always, the ride is weather dependent — but right now the forecast is looking like a belter. See you at 9:30! 🚴‍♂️💨
